Best Photos of 2008

2008 has been great. I bought a camera and I'm loving every minute of it. Well here are some websites that have collected the best photos from '08. I posted my favorite.

Lightning bolts appear above and around the Chaiten volcano as seen from Chana, some 30 kms (19 miles) north of the volcano, as it began its first eruption in thousands of years, in southern Chile May 2, 2008. Cases of electrical storms breaking out directly above erupting volcanoes are well documented, although scientists differ on what causes them. Picture taken May 2, 2008. (REUTERS/Carlos Gutierrez)

Maite Perroni

Maite Perroni (Mexican) has gained international popularity as a member of the group RBD.

My favorite women on Earth seem to all come from south of the border. Especially Brazil or Argentina, but I've got to give it up to Mexico for Maite. Not only is she short (short = cute) and talented but she holds her own in a pop group full of beautiful women.

I have the Periodic Table of Awesomeness memorized. Notice that Ninjas and Pirates are close to the top and yes I love Bacon too.

I'm not even going to post this on my blog but I will just link you to PhillyD's page so you can watch it. NOT SAFE FOR WORK. Believe me.

"Foreign Commercials, ARE THE BEST! I want to meet the guy who thought of this commercial, or to at least have been there during the pitch. Ok…..so when I think washing machines…..its EPIC….you know what else is EPIC? ….ummm Hundreds of naked women skydiving in the shape of letters and numbers. The commercial is to advertise a Siemens washing machine for 4,999.00 DKK, or about $900."

My Favorite Movie of '09

Official X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Growing up I had three favorite super heroes: Spider-Man, Batman and Wolverine. Whenever we played X-Men or whenever I got into a fight, I would be Wolverine. This movie looks entertaining and I am very happy that Gambit makes an appearance.

The Dark Knight - Best movie of the year... maybe decade

When was the last time you saw a movie this good or had this much fun in theaters? Jurassic Park? Seriously people, get your head on straight and ignore the fact that this is a comic book film because its bigger then that. Its not Ironman, but a REAL DEAL film. Give them the respect and honor it. They should win most of the awards this year. Not MILK, not Slumdog Millionaire and not Frost/Nixon.

"The year's biggest hit, the Batman blockbuster, "The Dark Knight," came in with strong awards buzz across the board but had only one nomination, supporting actor for Heath Ledger as the Joker."
`Button,' `Frost/Nixon,' `Doubt' grab 5 Globe noms -- Yahoo!

"The Dark Knight, which had been picking all the right endorsements in the run-up to the Oscars, failed to win over Golden Globe voters, earning just one nomination. Or, as many as Pineapple Express... As expected, The Dark Knight's Heath Ledger was nominated posthumously in the supporting actor category... As not expected, The Dark Knight didn't figure in anywhere else, not in the Best Drama race, not in the Best Director race."

"Now that critics have gotten a peek at all the last-minute Oscar contenders, “The Dark Knight” has emerged as a solid contender for best picture and best director for Christopher Nolan."

"Batman has a shot at an Academy Award for musical score, after all. The music branch committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has reversed an earlier decision that would have made "The Dark Knight" score ineligible to compete for the Oscar."

The Hire

Once in a while I'll come across something that inspires me to try harder to be what I want to be. It grabs my soul and looks me straight in the eye. Well the talent, the creativity and the honest truth that "Story is King" is once again revealed to me through the BMW short film series The Hire by Anonymous Content and friends. I've posted my favorite three videos, but do watch the rest of them at BMW's Youtube Channel. You will be entertained.

"The BMW film series, The Hire was a series of eight short films (averaging about ten minutes each) produced for the Internet in 2001 and 2002. A form of branded content, all eight films featured popular directors from across the globe, starred Clive Owen as the "Driver", and highlighted the performance aspects of various BMW automobiles."

Dragonball Sucks Harder Then Speed Racer?!

Dragonball Evolution Trailer

I've been waiting a long time for this movie to come out and I hoped it was the first of a long series, but after watching the trailer I have one word for the producers.... FAIL!

Macbook Nano

"Screedoo has spoken to some Mac expert's in the market in it's bid to find out how the new Mac will look like, and rumour has it that this could be the real thing. Don't you find it simply amazing? Showing all of the beauty and splendour Apple has to offer, layered in aluminium and glass, now, that's what we call, a work of art!"
Apple Macbook Nano - Screedoo

My problem with Apple is that they have worked themselves into a cool corner. It has to be "cool" for it be an Apple product. Well until it backfires, I'm a big fan and will buy most of their gadgets, especially this one if it ever gets made.

365 T-Shirts

"So, someone has managed to take the genius of Hide Your Arms, people sending me t-shirts and writing about them, and actually manage to get paid for it! Jason, you’re a clever, clever man."
IWearYourShirt.com - hey, that’s my thing!

"In this up and down economy I’m outsourcing my wardrobe (namely shirts) to corporate america and you! I’m going to wear a different shirt for 365 days straight in 2009, take multiple pictures throughout my day and blog about it. Days are sold at “face value” so January 1 is $1 and December 31 is $365."

I think this idea is brilliant. It definitely gives me something to look forward to in 2009.

Flexible Bendable Screen... Star Trek anyone?

"Nearly four years after Arizona State University opened its very own flexible display center comes this, a prototype device that's purportedly easy to manufactur, easy on the environment and practically as strong as Thor."
HP and ASU demo bendable, unbreakable electronic displays

Probably one of the coolest things I've seen this year. Just the idea that my monitor or even cellphone will have a pullout screen is kind of sexy.

NOTICE: Anti-Girlfriend Wanted

My girlfriend of two years is going abroad for the spring semester to Spain. We practically live together so this transition isn't going to be easy and I'm going to find myself with A LOT of me time. So I have decided to commit myself to a few things.

One... filmmaking and photography. If I'm not out shooting a film. I will be out taking pictures of something or some one.

Two... I will take this free time to read more, write more and watching over 200 films to greatly increase my understanding on topics such as finances, filmmaking and storytelling. Consider it my Hyperbolic Time Chamber. So if I spend the entire weekend in my room... you'll know why.

Three... spending quality time in the world of Azeroth. (This will only happen if I fix my computer and complete my thesis early. Otherwise nothing positive will get done and I can't afford that.)

Well besides all of the usual stuff, I do have one other issue and since I don't want life to pass me by for the next four months I will need an Anti-Girlfriend, to pull my head out of the gutter and give me a good reason to go out on the weekend.

What's an Anti-Girlfriend? Let me break it down for ya.

A Girlfriend is..."a female friend with whom a man or boy is romantically or sexually involved; a sweetheart."

Anti refers to "a person who is opposed to something, such as a group, policy, proposal, or practice."

So an Anti-Girlfriend would be... "a female friend who is opposed to being romantically or sexually involved with a man or boy. A friend with benefits without the benefits."

You see, I had a bunch of female friends in college (because my college was 70% female) but the ones I was able to keep in touch with left the city when they graduated. Now, I still have my home boys and will spend a lot of time drinking and playing pool, but seriously you can handle only so much guy time before it drives you crazy.

So what's in it for you? Most of the spoils that my girlfriend gets: free food, free drinks, the occasional date and lots of Starbucks.

All applicants must submit a photo and a short story about why they should be my Anti-Girlfriend. My requirements are that you're photogenic, funny, love a good movie and play well with others. Also applications must be submitted by email and don't call me. I'll call you. ;-)

Good luck.

i h8 ur puppy
It's such a weird site, that I'm kind of speechless and can't describe it. Craig states on his blog that... "Jack Anderson’s creation combines aspects of CuteOverload and WhatWouldTylerDurdenDo." I think its just the weirdest dog lover (hater) website of all time. What do you think?

Things to remember from 2008... (Part 1)

So as we count down to the New Year I've been looking for lists to comment on and this one seriously popped out. Yahoo's Top 10 Searches for 2008! Why? For one reason only. It ranked "Runescape" as its top 5 most searched topic, notably above Jessica Alba! Now I too like free stuff and came across this free role playing game YEARS ago (I was still in High School) and I probably could remember the password to my old account, but how did this game see new life again in 2008? Especially with World of Warcraft's Lich King and all the new games for the PS3 and Xbox?

Well I don't know and if you have the answer let me know. And yes the graphics are this cheesy but you really do get into it. Here's to my summers of '99!

The closest thing to heaven after being in hell (aka the NJ Turnpike with wall to wall traffic)

Hello good people. I hope all is well and you find yourself in a giddy mood.

I have returned from basically a week long vacation in New England with my gf's family. Overall, I had a great time and really can't complain. I sorta wish everyone lived a little bit closer because I swear I spent half the time I was up there in a car driving somewhere. Her parents are divorced so they do the 2 Thanksgivings and 2 Christmases thing. It has its pros and cons and will definitely play a factor when you measure the chances of our long term relationship. But the point is that I I had a good time and wanted to post some images from the trip. I took more photos with my iPhone then my $3000 camera but I did get a chance to use both and will post the artistic stuff later. Oh and I do love Photo Blogs but I lack the diligence to really create one.

Also this is a quick review about using your iPhone while traveling... I give it a (B+) since the Pandora application works so well. I know cause I already use it at work but once you leave a 3G network (any city) and end up in a very rural area, good luck. AT&T doesn't reach this far (though you're still in America) and your music will either disappear or stop-n-go like a porno streaming from the internet. Oh well. Also the battery does seem to die a lot faster and I started to regret not buying the car charger. The Apple stores sells one for like $60 but I'm sure Best Buy has a much cheaper generic one. Anyways... the iPhone worked great and even the GPS/map function got us unlost after it got us lost. Seriously this thing is the coolest thing I have ever bought. Its not an iPhone but a HandTop (aka Laptop for your hand). Make sure to add it to your Christmas wish list along with Apple stock.

I'm hitting up the Vampire Weekend concert tonight. I will post a review later this week. Also I need to recap my first flag football season playing for Boston U in the CAN football league, plus I'm doing pretty well in fantasy too.

One love people and enjoy your leftovers... cause I have none.
