Friday

Happy Friday!

I'm out. Have an awesome weekend. Remember, practice makes perfect and this guy lives it.

Damien Walters Showreel 2009

FRESH MUSIC: DJ Will Eastman

Will Eastman is founder and resident DJ of Blisspop events at the 9:30 Club and BLISS dance party at the Black Cat in Washington, D.C. His remixes have received critical praise along with his DJ performances in D.C., across the U.S., and in Europe. The Washington Post Style Section calls him "one of the city's titan DJs."

Once, again I'm reppin' the local music scene. So check out his remix of "So Damn High" by Ruby Isle. I'm helping a friend shoot a music video for him on Saturday. I bet it will be good times. Maybe we'll even knock the house down.

2 Hits In 2 Hours

So if you ignore the bragging and how easy he makes it look, you really need to give it to him. I've jammed out to these songs in my car and after listening to what my sister can do with 4 tracks and keyboard.... yep it takes talent. So this is amazing!

Charice Pempengco

Keep an eye out for Charice. She's going to blow the lid off of the music world. What a SOLID natural voice. I'm so so so glad, that she is out there about to kick her thing into the next gear. We need more Filipinas (aka more people of color) in the lime light. You go girl.

"Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco (age 17), best known mononymously as Charice is an international Filipina singer who rose to popularity through YouTube." -- Wikipedia

Movies that Rock: Green Lantern

Green Lantern Trailer

Okay, so this is actually a fan made video and the guy kind of explains how he made it on his Youtube page but seriously its amazing. He has WAY too much free time and completely understands the stereotype of a Hollywood action film. How many movie clips can you spot? It's actually kind of hard.

IMPOSSIBLE!

GH3, is one of the few games my house mates and I play while drinking, and I doubt I could play this sober or drunk.

Worlds most impossible gh3 song!!

Obama... funny?

This Alphacat guy on Youtube does a VERY good Obama. I think SNL should just hire him for the next 8 years. As far as I can tell they were not prepared, anyways check him out.

Quotastic!

Sxephil posted pictures of UK's acclaimed "hottest model" from her Maxim shoot. (She's hot, but not my type)

Well this was from the responses and is sooo true:

almamater: yes 11 is a 10 who swallows

Everyday Heroes

Dulce Pinzón's "Superheros" is a great photo series concept. These are the people who no one thinks about, but we need them in our society as much as we need doctors and policemen. Thank you for everything you do.

"After September 11, the notion of the “hero” began to rear its head in the public consciousness more and more frequently. The notion served a necessity in a time of national and global crisis to acknowledge those who showed extraordinary courage or determination in the face of danger, sometimes even sacrificing their lives in an attempt to save others. However, in the whirlwind of journalism surrounding these deservedly front-page disasters and emergencies, it is easy to take for granted the heroes who sacrifice immeasurable life and labor in their day to day lives for the good of others, but do so in a somewhat less spectacular setting."

Movies That Rock: Sherlock Holmes

I don't remember Holmes being an action star, but this movie looks like a good time. Also, when did Rachel McAdams get all of this work. I love her look on film and she always does a pretty solid job. See Lindsay, you don't have to be like that.

Awkward Family Photos

Have you ever felt like you had the best family in the world? How about the weirdest? Well Awkward Family Photos is spreading the awkwardness of those timeless group shots that you hope will never see the light of day. Laugh it up, I know I did.

Movies That Rock: District 9

Watch the trailer. Then watch the short film. This looks amazing. I feel like they take a social issue and put a new spin on it, which feels very realistic.

District 9 Trailer (HD)

Alive in Joberg by Neill Blomkamp Spyfilms (Halo director)

District 9 is based on Alive in Joburg, a short film directed by Neill Blomkamp, Sharlto Copley, Simon Hansen and Shanon Worley. Copley also portrayed one of the interviewed policemen. The short film is about aliens landing in South Africa and becoming contained to a specific area and forced to work. In the movie these aliens are called "Non-Humans" and are overseen by Multi-National United (MNU), a company which is utilizing alien technology.

Twitter... express yourself

Good morning from my dark office. It's 10am and do you know where your kids are?

So I caved and signed up to Twitter. Follow me if you like. I'm just trying it out, mostly to promote and build a following for my thesis film, "The Blind Photographer." I read an article about filmmakers and twitter and felt like I wasn't doing enough, so I signed up. Either way, I can always delete it... right? Anyways... just because you follow me DOES not mean I will follow you. I know its bad twitter etiquette but seriously some people post 15 times an hour and it clears my page of my friends' twitters. So yeah, I consider it S-P-A-M.

The Artomatic is starting next week and I am pumped... except that I haven't installed my artwork yet, cause the people who are printing them haven't sent my prints to me. I'm sure I paid for two day shipping. CRAP. Running out of time. If anyone is interested in painting my space with me, let me know.

I've downloaded so many apps on my iPhone in the past three weeks. Best one so far... anything by Playmesh. If you sign up add me as a friend, username "Blckbaron"

I'm overbooked. Something has to go: thesis, script #2, Artomatic, photography gigs, music video?

Peace & Love

PS> Started following NBA basketball again. (This is the only time I really do.) Thank you Magic for beating Boston. Good luck, King James. Its your turn to win those rings.

Art Speaks: Recycled Tires

Check out Robot Nine's post "Rubber Times Turned Into Art Sculptures".

Holy crap, I didn't know you could do all that with old tires. I bet they smell bad but who wouldn't want a 12 foot dragon in their front yard?

"I always applaud the effort to turn trash into treasure, but it's rarely done so well as in the case of these amazing sculptures from reclaimed tires." -- Make: Online

"And the best part is there wont be much any wear & tear at all, it can be really be ultra hard wearing & weather proof."

Drummers Rock

I've started posting drummer videos, so I may start a new keyword titled "Drummers Rock" and this guy takes the cake.

"If I’ve learned anything in my 20 years of drumming, it’s that you need to give 110% when performing (especially on live TV). You’re probably asking yourself, how do I achieve this?"

Well, let me give you 3 simple rules:

1. Go out and get yourself a nice tux (preferably white).

2. Raise your cymbal stands to their maximum height.

3. Don’t hold back.

Follow these rules and everything else will fall into place, as demonstrated below:

FRESH MUSIC: Radio Citizen

I would hate to leave you with no music to chill too this weekend so check out Radio Citizen. You can thank Germany for this soulful trip jazz music. It kind of reminds me of Moby's old stuff. Enjoy.

Radio Citizen - The Hop (Feat. Bajka)

"In the beginning, the project was called Radio City, so the question rather is: Why did I have to change it into Radio Citizen? The cultural world today gets divided into claims. McDonalds gets "i love it", Canon "you can" and Volkswagen tried to trademark the "Volks", which simply means "of the people". No wonder radio city had already been occupied. It took me quite long to come up with the obvious replacement, Radio Citizen. I´m not really seeing it as my personal nickname, but as the name of the project."

Happy Friday!

ART SPEAKS: Portraits from Anything

iri5's "Portraits from Anything" on Flickr is simply breath taking. As an artist who specializes in using non traditional media... old books, cassettes, playing cards, magazines, credit cards, you can't help but be inspired by their work. This is the kind of stuff I want to make when I'm retired.

The Art of Digging

DJ Shadow featured in the movie Scratch (2002)

"It won't make a bad DJ good. It will make a good DJ better." Seriously, I've seen him and the Cut Chemist in concert and they are the best. Good times and I'm so renting this one on Netflix. It feels like the truth.

Another classic from Korea

Korean movie... Thirst (or Vampire)

Director Chan-wook Park did Old Boy which is one of my favorite foreign films (definitely Netflix worthy). His sense of storytelling can be humorous but truthful and sad. Its very poetic and since I already like Vampire stories (minus Buffy, Twilight and anything 12-year old girls would love), his seems right up my alley. Yes it is in Korean, but you get the point. Priest is a vampire and falls in love...yada yada... but its still a great trailer.

Rice Krispies Never Looked So Good

I never blog about restaurants or non tech/t-shirt stores, but this looks so wonderful I had to spread the word. So if anyone wants to send me a "Small Sampler Gift Box" for $20, don't let anything stop ya!

Check out The Crispery

"In 1995, The Crispery was founded by me...my name is Vicki Mate. Its creation was due to the fact that I was a mom who had a strong passion for marshmallow... yes, marshmallow.... So with my flair for business and a talent in cooking; it was inevitable my mission was to set out to create the most delectable marshmallow crispy bar ever."

Its a Japanese commercial (I think), but seriously holy sh*t.

The English 5 Foot 1 Pixie

Lady Sovereign - I Got You Dancing Video

So when did Lady Sovereign come back? Plus she's cuter then I remember. Anyway, I like this song and its definitely a different direction from her old stuff. The base is pretty sick. Also "So Human" isn't bad either. She's more poppy now and I hope it pushes her in to the lime light. Cause I bet its hard being a white female rapper.

Friday

Music Video: "Wow"

Kylie Minogue - Wow (Original Edit)

In high school for some reason I listened to a lot of Kylie. Even bought an album or two. Well I know this is old, but I've been digging it lately. She's got a great pop sound and the muted groove is pretty sweet. Probably one of the few 40 year old women/blondes, I'd sleep with in a heartbeat.

Another Random Bit: The Perspective of David Foster Wallace

Worth watching. Just count how many words he uses that you never have heard of. Seriously, do I even speak real English?

Oh his book just came out... even though he passed away in '08.

I can't stop listening...

to "Orange Shirt" by Discovery.

I think I might just have found of a new favorite band. (Oh yeah, today has definitely been a music treat.)

"What Discovery is, besides the spaceship and a TV channel, is Ra Ra Riot’s Wes Miles and Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, and instead of churning out lovely orchestral pop as they do with their respective bands, they churn out… jams."

FRESH MUSIC: The Gossip

The Gossip are a three-piece American indie rock band fronted by plus-size punk queen Beth Ditto. The band was relatively unknown until they hit success with their third studio album, Standing in the Way of Control.

THE GOSSIP - HEAVY CROSS [FULL LENGTH HQ]

Wow, what a voice. I love the throw back feel to the 70s and it definitely makes me want to dance. You really can call it punk soul music. Anyways check out The Gossip. Mad love to big women everywhere who rock a voice like this.

JULIA RESTOIN ROITFELD FOR HAPERS BAZAAR UK -- Kanye West

I've been playing the guitar for 13 years

I think every guy at some point in his life has that moment where they envy the guy playing guitar because all the girls seem totally into him, so you ask for a guitar on your birthday and after 5 years of teaching yourself how to play... you finally become that guy. Only then to realize that they still think you're gay. FML

Stop motion with wolf and pig

Wow, I don't even want to know how long this took to make but what a well executed concept. Brilliant work.

Boom What A Remix

So I thought will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas kind of half-ass'd their last single. It wasn't complex or actually that good. Then I heard the remix. Happy Friday.
