FRESH MUSIC #7 - Jamie Cullum

I like Jazz and I really have no idea where British artist Jamie Cullum has been in the US music scene but his cover of Pharrel's song is so hot...

Jamie Cullum - Frontin' (Live)

Now I'm not going to toot his horn but I love artist that mix and match. He reminds me of a mash up between Harry Connick Jr and Gavin DeGraw (I can't stand him). Jamie has been in the game for a decade covering some of USA's greatest pop songs with his own style making them sound so new. I don't own any of his albums but I've been impressed with what I've heard, so check out his WEBSITE for more info. He'll be at the Hollywood Bowl in August.

Thanks for sending me the video Jeremiah.

When Your Bank Goes Broke...

With the IndyMac fiasco we had a couple of weeks ago I've been looking into what happens if your bank fails. This Washington Post article does a great job explaining things. Basically not having all your eggs in one basket is a good idea but there are safety measures in place.

"If you have $100,000 or less in your name in any one bank, you have nothing to worry about. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., an independent agency of the federal government, will insure up to $100,000 per depositor per insured bank or savings association."

The Anti Budweiser - Why you shouldn't buy it

A beautiful thing about our country is that Americans as consumers have the last say. No matter how big you get, if we don't buy your product...you go out of business. Well my friends, some of us our trying to unite under one banner for we are outraged by Budweiser selling itself like an two dollar whore to InBev.

"The Budweiser maker, which controls nearly half the U.S. beer market, agreed July 13 to be bought by InBev, brewer of Beck's and Brahma, for $52 billion in cash. The deal, which will create the world's largest brewer, is expected to close by year end."
Anheuser Net Edges Up, Helped by a New Brand -- The Wall Street Journal

Why does this bother us? Well this wouldn't be a big issue if Bud wasn't the greatest American beer. I mean it has some serious roots within our country and now it just up and left? Granted they're still making the beer here but its no longer technically an American company. So this my plea to you to boycott Budweiser. Life As List's "Just Say No" post gives you a great long list of Bud products that you shouldn't buy. Here's a sample of them: Busch, Natural Light, Rolling Rock, O'Doul's, Bud Light, Michelob Ultra... and the list goes on!!

Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about...maybe I'm being a jackass about this. They're calling it a merger to sound nice but next time I'm out at a bar. I'm ordering a Miller Lite. It's Miller Time baby.

Australia to Host 2008 Homeless World Cup

I thought this was an awesome idea. So feel free to make a donation to the Homeless World Cup. I think one of the best ways to really help people is to give them something to do, that builds them into a better person.

Garbage Bags = Art

"...before we saw the work of street artist Joshua Allen Harris we never once considered the artistic possibilities of subway exhaust. Using only tape and garbage bags, Harris creates giant inflatable animals that become animated when fastened to a sidewalk grate."

"The Palm Is Flat"

"I always enjoy watching guys hands on girls backs. You always know when they are uncomfortable, unsure or just don't like the girl, because their hands form a fist on their back. When a guy is more comfortable with a girl, the palm is flat and often lower ;) I just love watching that sort of thing, it's like reading a book."

The Anti Bicycle

"...Amherst College graduate beginning her career in Washington, D.C., was killed in the nation's capital yesterday morning when she was run over by a garbage truck while riding her bicycle to work....She was riding westbound on R Street NW when the truck, traveling in the same direction, took a right turn and apparently did not see the cyclist..."
Northborough woman killed in D.C. -- The Boston Globe

I post this for a couple of reasons....

(1) My heart goes out to Miss Alice Swanson's family. She was so young and sounds like an eager hard working person, which this world needs more of everyday. She is an icon for young women who want to chase their dreams. This is truly a sad loss for us Washingtonians.

(2) I'm against riding bikes in the city. Its just too dangerous out there. I grew up in the suburbs and I rode my bike like a maniac when I was a kid. I have the scars and chipped tooth to prove it, but I will never let my loved ones buy a bike if they live in a city.

(3) Riding bikes in DC is HAZARDOUS and many people don't realize this. Luckily there are not a lot of deaths but I have seen with my own eyes at least two riders get hit by cars in DC. Plus I had a college friend end up in the hospital for weeks because she got clipped by a car while riding her bike in DC. So be aware of the risks and dangers.

(4) People, when driving a vehicle (especially large ones) in a city, please lookout for other vehicles, pedestrians, pets and BICYCLES! Bikes move faster then pedestrians so I know it can be hard to spot them and I have seen bikers break every traffic law known to man but still you're in a metal box and they're sitting on a metal stick. Do the math.

(5) This is a reminder that bike safety starts with the bicyclist. From what I've read about the accident it was the truck drivers fault. He really didn't see Miss Swanson, but I've driven large vehicles. You have to check your blind spots every time. Also I do know that when riding your bike in the city you need to play defense all the time so please EVERYONE you need to check out BicycleSafe.com and read the entire article about "How to Not Get Hit by Cars" plus the BikeArlington.com safety tips are pretty simple and helpful. Know them, practice them and ride safely.

Accidents happen but don't play with your lives people. We actually may need some of you one day.

"If you ride in such a way that a car has to see you to take action to avoid hitting you, then that means they will definitely hit you if they don't see you. But if you stay out of their way, then you won't get hit even if they didn't notice you were there."

New York, New Broke

So I'm supposed to be moving to New York City in 2010 to continue my pursuit of this "dream job." And my sister and one of my ex's have already made their way into the city chasing their personal plans for success. Well its just a little depressing to read about how unbalanced the living situation is in the big city since I've recently have become interested in my personal finances. I think 2009's motto will be about saving money. Though living in Washington DC (which was in the top five) might be a good training ground for frugal living.

"New York's diverse economy and highly-educated residents couldn't save it from sinking to the bottom due to its high cost of living and paychecks that just aren't "inflated" enough to make up the difference, the report stated."

Fresh Music #5 - Mint Royale

"Mint Royale is a big beat electronic music act from Manchester, England. They were originally founded by the duo Neil Claxton and Chris Baker in 1997; the latter left the band in 2004, but Claxton continued to produce music using the Mint Royale name."
Mint Royale -- Wikipedia

I'm always looking for new music and after seeing Britian's Got Talent winner George Sampson use one of their songs for his break dance routine. (It also reached #1 on the charts in the UK shortly after). I decided to check them out and what do you know...its another solid set of DJs remixing songs worth listening too. They mostly remind me of Moby since they've been around for a while but seriously its worth downloading. Just chill music to play in the background while at work.

"Manchester's big beat veterans are in at number one with the re-release of their 'Singin' In The Rain' remix ending Rihanna's three-week reign with 'Take A Bow'."
