Sunday

U.S. Girls

U.S. Girls is a Toronto-based experimental pop project formed in 2007, consisting solely of American musician and record producer Meghan Remy. They sound like a child of ABBA.

Tennis

Tennis is an American indie pop band from Denver, Colorado, made up of husband-and-wife duo Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley. The duo formed in 2010, and released their debut album, Cape Dory, in 2011. Tennis is one of my favorite bands of the last decade and I found this post in my 2010 drafts. I literally linked to their myspace page. Haha.

"...a husband and wife team who decided to write music together after spending six months on a duo boat voyage and finding any other way of communicating their experience ineffective, Tennis make that kind of music that’s trendy because it’s so timeless." -- REC’D MP3: Yours Truly Session - Pretty Much Amazing

Friday

Lunar Vacation

Lunar Vacation is a band from Atlanta and their dreamy rock sound reminds me of Tennis and The Shacks. So clear, so fun. Their debut album ‘Inside Every Fig is a Dead Wasp’ out now.

"The week that guitarists Grace Repasky and Maggie Geeslin turned old enough to drive, Lunar Vacation was officially formed." -- Masquerade Atlanta

Wednesday

Firstworld

Firstworld is the musical endeavor of Miami producer and artist Kris Alvarez and it's dreamy magic. Firstworld's debut EP "I'm Right Here" made waves charting on NACC's Top 200, as well as being praised by FMBQ as a top 30 album. With new singles, Alvarez is exploring various themes on anxiety in the form of love songs.

Friday

Uffie

Anna-Catherine Hartley, known professionally as Uffie, is an American-French singer, rapper, and DJ formerly signed to French electronic music record label Ed Banger Records. I don't even know how I originally found Uffie more than a decade ago. It might have been via The Cobra Snake photos or even an Ed Banger playlist. I just know that she sounds like the internet and I dig it. It's so pre Dojo Cat, so I'm glad to see that she's still making music.

Sunday

Monophonics

Monophonics has a such a solid classic soul sound. "Raised amid the rich musical culture and history of the San Francisco Bay Area, Monophonics proudly carry the torch through the generations into today’s musical landscape. Holding on to tradition, but by no means purists of any kind, they play their own brand of music known as 'Psychedelic Soul'... 'One of the best live soul bands I have ever seen!' – Al Bell (Record producer, songwriter, executive, and co-owner of legendary Stax Records)"

Thursday

Bonobo

I've mentioned the legend that is Bonobo on the blog many times before. I was lucky enough to see Simon Green and his band perform live in DC and it was so much fun, because in college I made a series of narrartive videos co-inspired by his music called Dead Season. His new album "Fragments" drops soon, so I'm posting his older albums below. Also Spotify's Best of Bonobo playlist is fire. Enjoy.

Monday

SALES

SALES is an American guitar-based indie-pop band from Orlando, Florida. The band's members are musicians Lauren Morgan and Jordan Shih and they might be my new favorite band. Thank you TikTok for bringing their magical sound back into the limelight.

Sunday

Music Like Tame Impala and More

Just some killer playlists from Indie Playlists. They focus on indie pop, indie rock, indie pop and bedroom pop. Also check out BIRP!

Saturday

Valiant Vermin

Valiant Vermin is a bedroom project of some city chick named Bettina Campomanes and I love the low key vibe of it all. Horny Sad and Sunday Best are my favorite tracks.

Friday

Free Party

Free Party is a rap duo from Largo, MD. They have a solid young gun hiphop sound. Classic stuff.

Tuesday

Cafuné

Sedona and Noah are Cafuné. They're the perfect blend of alternative pop, soft rock, and shoegaze all tied together by dreamy vocals.

Monday

Magdalena Bay

Magdalena Bay is Mica and Matt from LA. They are making synth pop straight from the simulation. Not only are their visuals sic, but their sound is other wordly gold.

Saturday

Ginger Root

Under the moniker "Ginger Root", multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter Cameron Lew fronts a sound, self-proclaimed as: Aggressive elevator soul. I love the energy and the vibe and if I owned a bar his music would be on our late night playlist.

Tuesday

Vince Staples

Vince Staples is an American rapper and he is a member of the hip hop trio Cutthroat Boyz alongside fellow California rappers Aston Matthews and Joey Fatts. "A standout rapper in today’s hip hop world, he keeps his sound deeply tied to his west coast roots and his message one that knows no boundaries." Honestly the flow has always been, but his new stuff just has a better beat to it.

Monday

nightlife

Nightlife is a baltimore soulpunk band and we need more from this genre. "Combining new era pop & rnb soundscapes with modern rock & post-hardcore sensibilities, the band places groove, feel, & golden-era soul influences at the forefront of their music to create an invigorating neo-soul sound." Fyi proceeds from thier bandcamp sales will be donated to gkmc baltimore.

Friday

Caroline Rose

Caroline Rose is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. After releasing two records of folk and country-inspired music, she released a pop-rock album Loner in 2018. Her most recent album, Superstar, was released in 2020 and yes, I love her pop-rock music more but the country stuff is still good. Also she has the best music videos. (Thank you DT for the find.)

Thursday

Daði Freyr

Daði Freyr is an Icelandic musician living in Berlin, Germany. He was due to represent Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song "Think About Things", before the event was cancelled in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He came back in 2021 with the song "10 Years." So I knew about "Think About Things," but I didn't realize he had made new music. I dig the sonic vibe and the positivity of it all. If you have time watch their documentary. It's pretty cool.

Tuesday

Bobby Sessions

Bobby Sessions is the Legend from Dallas, TX and Manifest is a banger from beginning to end. Definitely reminds me of Lupe Fiasco.

Saturday

Joey Quiñones & Thee Sinseers

Joey Quiñones & Thee Sinseers is such a classic romantic vibe. Straight out of East L.A. and led by Latinx singer-songwriter Joseph Quiñones, Thee Sinseers feature a full rhythm and brass section, and are part of a new generation of bands that are inspired by the interrelated lowrider and soul music scenes that began within the Chicano communities of Los Angeles in the 1950s. Some would even say that the golden voice of Joey Quiñones shouldn't exist in our time.

The KEXP performance is especially sweet.

Friday

Brainstory

Brainstory is funky good like Khruangbin and Hiatus Kaiyote. Brainstory is the brothers Kevin and Tony Martin (on guitar/vocals and bass, respectfully) and Eric Hagstrom (drums). "Springing from the obscurity of the Inland Empire, Brainstory forges a new sound using the soul and fire of Jazz, with the psychedelic expressions of 60's pop."

Thursday

KennyHoopla

KennyHoopla is an American singer, songwriter, and rapper from Cleveland. He began posting songs to his SoundCloud page in 2016 and recently started collaborating with the Travis Barker. His most recent tracks remind me of all the best parts of Sum 41, Good Charlotte and The Cure and I LOVE IT. Shout out to my friend Greene for sharing the killer track Estella.

Kenny Mason

I dig Atlanta rapper Kenny Mason. His flow and vibe is really onto something for example checkout his new song Titan. "While largely still a rap album, Kenny Mason combines rock and rap throughout to outstanding effect."

Wednesday

Wayne Snow

Wayne Snow is a Nigerian born future soul artist, singer, songwriter, and performer. His collabs with Darious are pure magic. Back in 2015 I shared the high impact Darius - Helios (feat. Wayne Snow) Myd Remix.

Thursday

Screaming Females

Screaming Females is an American rock band from New Brunswick, New Jersey. They're signed to Don Giovanni Records and their album Castle Talk is on my road trip playlist. They have such a classic solid sound I left their show thinking that "rock is definitely not dead" and it warmed my heart. Marissa Paternoster is one of the best guitar playing vocalist I've ever seen live. With over six albums and more than a decade of music making the Screaming Females are the best band you've never heard of.

Wednesday

Woolbright

Woolbright is a band from Davie, Florida and their lead singer Candice Maritato has a great voice for their garage rock sound. They're the kind of band that could open for the Screaming Females and you would be like, "Oh shit, this band is good."

Tuesday

Ska Tune Network

I listened to a lot of ska music as a teenager. Especially ska covers, so Ska Tune Network is definitely a vibe I can get behind. Besides being the CEO of SKA, they also play trombone in a band called We Are The Union and curates a ska-spirations playlist on spotify that's pretty dope.

Monday

Holy Holy

Holy Holy sounds like one of those bands that I should have known about already. Holy Holy are an Australian indie rock band formed by songwriters Timothy Carroll (vocals, guitar) and Oscar Dawson (guitar) in 2011. They have release three top 20 studio albums and have been nominated for an ARIA Music Award. When talking about their music Carroll explains that they use “...emotive chord progressions that subtly influence the way you feel. They feed into the lyrics. You don’t realise why, but you’re listening to the song and certain emotions come up."

Saturday

JOVI

I'm posting this so I can track it. Sound and visual artist JOVI is releasing a new track each week on Fridays @8am (PT) for 52 weeks. The music not only has a great soothing digital vibe, but this creative endeavour is worth supporting.

Friday

Chris Joss

French multi-instrumentalist Chris Joss produces funky, cinematic instrumentals that incorporate a wide range of influences, from psychedelic rock and Bollywood soundtracks to disco and dub. His music really sounds like it comes from your favorite movie soundtrack.

Saturday

Chiptune

Chiptune, also known as chip music, is a style of synthesized electronic music made using the programmable sound generator sound chips or synthesizers in vintage arcade machines, computers and video game consoles. I came across the Montero remix on tumblr and it sent me down a Chiptune wormhole. If you're a fan of Anamanaguchi, you're gonna love what I found.

Sunday

Quadeca

Benjamin "Ben" Lasky, better known online as Quadeca (formerly quadecax8), is an American YouTuber and rapper. I'm usually pretty hard on the new artists, but I just really dig the vibes of his new album From Me To You.

Thursday

24kGoldn

Golden Landis Von Jones, known professionally as 24kGoldn, is an American rapper. His music is all over TikTok, but his new album El Dorado is actually pretty good and has a pop punk rock rap vibe. Rolling Stone called it, "...Sunny, Sad, and Engineered to Sound Great in the Supermarket."

Also it was AvivaSofia that got me hooked on Valentino.
