The Miseducation of the American People
"To educate improperly," is the definition of miseducation.
As I grow older, my understanding about life and the world around us becomes clearer. One of the topics that rests upon my heart... is about finances. My mind is racing and I've been reading anything and everything about global finance, micro economics and business. I can't get enough, because I feel that we as a people have failed to teach anyone the proper way of doing things. We borrow and spend and it has become such a norm that we should switch out the word "God" on our money with "Debt".
"Everything is permissible"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others. - 1 Corinthians 10:23-24
I'm not one to preach or use scripture but I think it makes a good point about how we ask for things we don't need and how people are willing to sell us things we don't need. The line between our needs and wants have been grayed out and everyone is out for themselves. What good does it do? Why is okay for 90% of the population to only have 10% of the wealth. Shouldn't those at the top look to help others? It's an idea not a solution.
So what is the answer to this economic problem? Are we as a nation running to hard, buying too much and living too fast? Is our standard stand living too high? I believe yes and so many of us have forgotten to stop and smell the roses. We've sailed to far out to sea chasing fishes that in the end hold no nutritional value.
The financial collapse has really crushed people from all economic levels. I nearly cried at work after watching this video.
A Town In Crisis
So one of my new goals for 2009, isn't just about getting my finances in order but also helping others through these difficult times. So bare with me, whenever I post anything about finances or money. I don't know shit, but what I've learned so far... is that its simple. The answer is simple. Things like "spend less then you make" and "save for a rainy day" really do carry more weight then anything else. That your worst enemy is your self, especially if you lack the patience and diligence to do the right thing.
"Shit happens; it's how you clean it up that matters." - Saving Grace
So let's begin the clean up and let's learn something from this. It kind of reminds me of a story...
In a field one summer’s day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.
“Why not come and chat with me,” said the Grasshopper, “instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"
“I am helping to lay up food for the winter,” said the Ant, “and recommend you to do the same."
“Why bother about winter?” said the Grasshopper; “we have got plenty of food at present.” But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food, and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer.
Then the Grasshopper knew: “IT IS BEST TO PREPARE FOR THE DAYS OF NECESSITY.”

Science Is Cool: Sticks & Stones
Life can be so simple sometimes... actually most of the time.
STONEHENGE SOLVED?
For hundreds, maybe thousands of years, people have been trying to figure out how primitive people could build huge structures such as Stonehenge and the pyramids out of stone blocks weighing thousands of pounds. Scientists have been stumped.
Then along comes a normal guy - a retired construction worker – and he says well, I would do it like this. And he does. This guy uses the simplest tools known to man and shows how simple and easy it would have been to create Stonehenge. This is a really great video clip. Amazing how this guy could figure out something that has confounded scholars for centuries. And not only figures it out, but demonstrates it! And this guy could build a replica of Stonehenge single-handedly, while a committee of 20 or 30 Civil Engineering professors from leading universities would be debating how it might be done.

Jarah Mariano
I'm in love with Jarah Mariano. Now, I haven't bought an issue of SI's Swimsuit Edition since middle school but after seeing her on Kanye's blog... I was blown away. Way to go SI! Besides being the RAW essence of super cute, she could make any summer day last forever.
"Jarah-Evelyn Makalapua Mariano is an American fashion model of Hawaiian, Korean, and Chinese descent. Mariano has appeared in ads for Victoria's Secret, MAC, Armani Exchange, Sephora, Roxy Quiksilver, and Rock and Republic. She has also been featured in two Abercrombie & Fitch campaigns, and made her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition debut in 2008."

Obama's inauguration speech - live mashup
I had spent the whole weekend doing random Obama things by myself. Saturday I went down to the national mall and walked around the Capitol. Everything was empty but everything was fully decorated. It felt like Christmas and I got very excited.
On Sunday, I went to Georgetown for the Manifest Hope DC exhibit, which rocked my socks. So many different artistic ideas about Obama and his message of Hope. Plus Shepard Fairey was there. I was too scared to go up to him and shake his hand. People like him, inspire me to never give up my art and get a real job. Thanks for being you.
I rested on Monday and my brothers and sister came over to spend the night. We drank and dance the night away before passing out around 3am.
On Tuesday, we woke up at 6:30 am and were standing on a crowded Metro train at 7. We got off in Farragut Square and we followed the crowd down empty business streets and through the valley of law firms to the mall. We entered behind the Washington Monument and like black coffee spilling over your desk the crowd slowly poured into the empty spaces. My heart soared as we watch the birds swarm over head. It was cold, but the smiling faces of 2 million people kept the day warm. We went as far as we could and ended up at the halfway point 50 yards from a jumbotron. We stood for two hours waiting for the show began and with the crowd we cheered as the aerial shot revealed the magnitude of this day. When Obama took his oath and the chains on our dreams faded into dust. We let out a roar of victory. I hugged the people around me and held onto my siblings tight. We did this for our family.
The cold didn't matter. My hurting feet and back didn't matter. It was all worth it! We celebrated life. We celebrated change. These moments come once in a life time and I was there. I'm black and I'm proud, but I was even prouder to be an American that day. God bless the Obamas and this beautiful country.
PS> I'm going through all my photos and should be posting them next week. Sorry for the delay.

Proportionality: A Guide Line In War? Interview R.S.McNamara
I don't stand on either side and I don't care to even hear or learn why they are fighting but when it comes to war... killing civilians is never right. If you mean to kill civilians say what it is... genocide? Proportionality should be a guide line in any war, but then again... would it really be war?

It's like heavy emotion sex...
I just caught up on my Google Reader blog reading. Well most of it. I'm subscribed to PostSecret and browsed through 10 pages of secrets, human truths and emotions. I want to cry. Sometimes I read them and connect them to people I know. Maybe that's how they met? Maybe that's how she feels?
So I needed to post a few that jumped out at me. Celebrate your life. It's too short not to give out free hugs.
I want to make this a poster and hang it in my room. Growing up we had a Presidents poster on the wall. I knew there was something missing and I am so happy now.
You can't state what you believe in until you had to make that choice. Until you've come to that crossroad.
I'm afraid of growing old.

Sexy Phones
"Mac Funamizu is a name you’ve surely heard before, if you’re into Apple-related concepts and hot designs, so here’s his latest work: a mobile device using double glassy layers. The issue of fingerprints is present as usual, but the beauty of the handset is impressive, although some of you might think it lacks personality because of its transparency."
